The consolidation of the Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann University brought together two outstanding and renowned medical schools, faculties and residency programs that have had a distinct and outstanding history. The Medical College of Pennsylvania was founded in 1850 as the country’s first medical school for women. Hahnemann University Hospital and the School of Medicine trace their roots to 1848 when Constantine Herring, Jacob J. Jeannes and Walter Williamson founded what was to become the Hahneman Medical College and Hospital of Philadelphia. The merging of these two institutions has created one of the finest centers for academic excellence in the country, in the city of Philadelphia that is renowned world-wide as one of the leading communities of medical education. Drexel University College of Medicine, Department of Medicine has 1,000 medical students, one of the largest medical school enrollments in the nation. The Medical College of Pennsylvania Hahnemann University also encompasses the School of Public Health, School of Biomedical Graduate Studies and College of Nursing and Health Professions. Our intimate association with Drexel University provides a unique opportunity for combined programs in informatics, engineering, bioengineering, business administration. The research opportunities in concert with Drexel and the School of Medicine are unlimited.
